MICHAEL POLLAN ON BROADWAY?

Well not yet. But if there was ever a name that continues to show up in only the best of circles, it's his. So who's to say that the theatre adaption of The Botany Of Desire isn't headed for the bright lights?

Oh, right, I've buried the lead.

A press release landed in my inbox today boasting a new theatrical adaption of Pollan's 2001 book...
BERKELEY– The Arts Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley presents the first public reading from a new theatrical adaptation of Michael Pollan’s book The Botany of Desire on Friday, April 24 at 5:30pm in Wheeler Auditorium.
Feast your eyes here all you Pollan lovers!

  1. Okay, I've read it. (Okay, I've read all his books.) But I sooooo can't begin to imagine this . . .

  2. I didn't get to this until April 1 and figured it was a spoof...but just rechecked the posting date. I'm with you on this, Julie. So, will music for the tulips be pretty and music for the potatoes be clunky and...the pot music will be...what? Magical Mystery Tour?

  3. Wait! There's more. I've now heard that an independent production company is just now completing a 2-hour adaptation of Botany of Desire for PBS to air this fall. Like I said, only the best of circles...

  4. Oh good grief. I can't stand it.

And just how will this venture, this waste of precious grant dollars help further the cause within American Culture??

    A musical??

I give up. I'm going to call and ask PBS for my money back. How many times, after all, can they keep failing?

You mean we have no one in America other than Pollan to create something of some quality for TV? Nothing against the guy, he does his job well...but you mean we have No one in America who can do what Attenborough did with "The Private Life of Plants??"

Gee...I bet I know one outstanding journalist who'd be more than happy to create some fresh, exciting new content...Gee...someone who happens to be going to Turkey very soon...where so many of our beloved bulbs came from!!

Sorry. But I'm gotta go yell at my PBS people. After I barf.

  5. As an Idahoan born and bred, I wanna know why potato music would be clunky . . . why not comforting . . . or sustaining!
