CELEBRATING MY UNPAID CAREER!

As I continue to recover from my tiresome case of poison oak, I'm giddy today with the the first "published" post of my burgeoning new career in animal advocacy. I wrote a small story for one of the country's many exemplary animal welfare organizations, Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.

In truth, you'd best use this link to the article because you're absolutely unlikely to find it anywhere on their site, let alone on the web!

  1. Hi Ketzel,
I am a fiber artist, living here in Portland--well actually Washington County now. I was just pointed to your blog, mostly because of the Ecuador connection. What a great find! I know I will be returning.

I just read your article. My son-in-law grew up in Cuenca (now lives in Portland) and we have been there many times. Such a beautiful city and wonderful people. You may be interested in the Ecuador blog I created after our last trip, which was, unbelievably, 4 years ago now. http://www.noqinecuador.blogspot.com/

Good work you are doing. The street dogs of Ecuador are so sad and sometimes dangerous as well.

    Cheers! Terry Grant

Congratulations on taking up this important work. Since retiring, we've become involved at our local shelter here in NC. (I've read you occasionally since before you left.) It is something that I feel good about, but I know that relatively few dogs and cats will be adopted. I have to accept that I will try to do what I can to give them a better chance. So I go to yard sales and buy animal crates, collars, leashes, stainless bowls, and dog jackets for cute website pictures. I pick up cans and bags of food and drop it off when the pantry is low. If the animals are healthy and looking good, maybe they'll be more appealing. Our county shelter is not no-kill, unfortunately, but the staff is heroic here in Caswell County/Yanceyville. Sometimes breed rescues and other shelters will take some of our animals, so that is a help. If these animals could just be seen by more people, I think it would help. Carry on! (Our 4 shelter cats thank you, too.)
