We cater to people who are looking for a very particular kind of canine companion, one with a compatible personality, temperament and same idea of a good time.

It doesn't seem like much to want, an animal to enhance one's life. But it's not always as easy as it seems.

All of us who’ve lived with dogs know there’s nothing to touch the joy, the delight and the emotional richness of living with the right dog. But we also know the frustration, stress and sense of entrapment when one's animal companion is simply a bad match: incompatible energy levels that can make a person crazy; fearful dogs who become liabilities; dogs chosen for their looks and status who become a lesson in, “Never again.”

While there’s no guaranteeing any relationship - big surprise there, eh? - our commitment, once we get to know you, is to pair you up with the best, possible canine match we know, and stack the odds towards the happiest of endings.

Lastly...

Because we do not think of animals as possessions, we do not sell our dogs. In order to cover our costs, however, we ask for a $100 donation for every Heart of Barkness dog.
